Out With The Resolutions!

by bkhoury on January 20, 2010

So it is mid-January and once again I made all the cliche resolutions to myself.  Get in better shape, eat healthy, spend wisely.  I was thinking, isn’t it better to focus on the little impacts you can make day to day?  The best way I have found to do that is simply organization.  When it comes to feeding kids (old and young alike) there are a few things I have found to help me—especially now that I am even more pressed for time.

1) Check your mindset.  If a healthy delicious meal can be made in 15 minutes, that is less time than it takes to go through the drive through or heat up the oven for frozen pizza.  That is an easy thing to forget.
2) Do the bulk of your grocery shopping for the week in one trip.  That way you have all your ingredients on hand and don’t have to run to the grocery store—which we all know takes forever with little ones in tow!
3) Have a weekly menu to avoid asking (or even having to think about) What am I going to cook for this meal?
4)Be open to trying new things.  It is easy to fall into the trap that “I know my child will like macaroni and cheese” so I will just make that again.  In fact this strategy works against you in the long run because pretty soon that is all your child will like.
